Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force (Central) officials on Wednesday busted a hawala racket with the arrest of four persons and seized Rs 43 lakh and 12 mobile phones from their possession.

The arrested were identified as Bakul Kumar Patel, 34, and Jayesh Patel, 38, both natives of Gujarat and Joi Singh Raj Purohit, 38, and Narpat Singh Rajput, 36, both natives of Rajasthan were acting as agents for the alleged kingpins for 'hawala' (illegal transfer and delivery of cash) transactions.

Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths apprehended Bakul Kumar Patel and Jayesh Patel at Mahalakshmi’s Gem Mall in Chirag Ali Lane in Abids on Wednesday and seized Rs 17 lakh which was intended to be transferred to Mumbai through Joi Singh Raj Purohit and Narpat Singh Rajput. The police seized another Rs 26 from the latter.

Sleuths arrested them when Bakul and Jayesh approached Raj Purohit and Narpat to deliver the amount to be transferred to Mumbai through the associates, Dood Singh and Vishnu Solanki. A currency counting machine was also confiscated from the accused,” said N Koti Reddy, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Commissioner Task Force.

All the accused, who came to the city about 10 years ago, started transferring money illegally to Mumbai through hawala in the guise of jewellery and other businesses for the past one-and-a half year, the ADCP added.
