Khammam: The New Year began on a tragic note with the death of six persons in separate road accidents on Thursday night and in the early hours of Friday.

The dead included three revellers and three labourers. According to police, B Akshay, a BEd student, was fatally knocked down by an unidentified vehicle when he was returning home on a bike at Polavaram village under Burgampadu mandal on Thursday night. His father, who was riding pillion, suffered grievous head injuries. His condition was stated to be critical. They were going to their hamlet to take part in New Year celebrations.

One person was killed and three others were injured when a car they were travelling in overturned near Manuguru in the early hours of Friday, the police said. The dead was identified as S Srimantha Reddy (23).

Three construction labourers were killed and another injured when the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling in was hit by a jeep at VM Banjara under Penuballi mandal on Thursday night.

The labourers were returning to their village from the worksite when the mishap took place. The dead were identified as Telluri Ramakrishna (23), Narapogu Ramulu (40) and G China Venkateswarlu (35).

Meanwhile, three youths were killed and two injured when two motorbikes they were riding collided in Mahabubnagar district in the early hours of Friday. The accident occurred in Vanguru mandal in Mahabubnagar district when the revelers were returning home after New Year celebrations.

A motorbike on which three people were riding collided head-on with another motorbike coming from the opposite direction with two riders.
