Hyderabad: A 52-year-old man from Guntur was arrested by the cyber crime police on charges of luring women job aspirants and sending them obscene messages apart from threatening to defame them. The accused, who was a private teacher, reportedly snared about 60 women hailing from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and extorted money from them.

The cyber crime police said that they received a complaint from a woman in the first week of February, stating that one Babu Rao, who claimed to be a job consultant from Hyderabad, had extorted Rs 20,000 from her. During investigation, it was revealed that Babu Rao, the 52-year-old man was a graduation drop-out from Guntur. He earlier worked as a teacher in private schools.

“About a year ago, he posted an ad in Locanto website, stating that he would assist the jobless youth in acquiring high-paid jobs in multi-national companies. He received thousands of resumes from unemployed persons from Telugu States, from which Babu Rao collected the phone numbers, and email ids of women and started communicating with them,” the police said.

The police found that Babu Rao had lured the innocent women and started sending obscene messages. On confirming that the victims have fallen to his prey, Babu Rao started extorting money from them by threatening to disclose about the conversations to the family members of the victims. “He has been arrested and remanded. He will be taken into custody for further probe in the case,” said a cyber crime officer.
