Hyderabad: An alert on bomb planted at the heavily crowded Secunderabad Railway Station led to panic among the passengers, until the security forces confirmed that it was a hoax call.

At about 2.30 pm on Thursday, the Railway Control Room at Secunderabad received a call in which the caller (Male) spoke in Telugu claimed that a bomb was planted in the railway station. The Railway Protection Force, bomb disposal squads and hundreds of policemen rushed to the station.

After a thorough search in the railway station premises, both the dog squad and the bomb disposal teams confirmed that, no suspicious item was found in the railway station premises. The arrival of hundreds of policemen, sudden checks with the dog squads and BD teams panicked the passengers.

The police asked the passengers to move out of the station and continued the search till 5 pm. “No suspicious material was found. Someone could have played mischief to disturb the atmosphere. A team that simultaneously worked to identify the origin of the phone call traced the number to be from Rajendranagar,” said a railway police officer.

Sources said that the mobile number was registered on the name of one Naresh. However it was not confirmed whether that person made the call.
