16 youngsters held for online cricket betting
The menace of on-line cricket betting racket has been spreading remote parts like Eturunagaram. The local police have on Tuesday arrested 16 persons, mainly youth under the age group of 20 to 30 years.

They were found engaged in betting on the internet over the results of T 20 cricket matches using their mobile phones. 16 cell phones were seized from the arrested youth.
Eturunagaram sub-division ASP Rahul Hegde, who produced the arrested youth before media, said they were booked under the provisions of Gaming Act and were sent to judicial remand.
Efforts would be made to keep a close watch on those resorting betting and serious action would be initiated against them.
He appealed the parents of the youth to watch over their children and advise them to be away from such illegal activities.
By involving in betting acts, the youth were wasting their precious time and money. Soon, the others were involved in the cricket betting would be also arrested, he said.
