The cybercrime police station arrested four persons including two Nigerian nationals for cheating people on the pretext of supplying cancer medicine ‘Opdivo’. The accused were arrested in Delhi on August 2 and brought to city on a transit remand on Friday.

Hyderabad: The cybercrime police station arrested four persons including two Nigerian nationals for cheating people on the pretext of supplying cancer medicine ‘Opdivo’. The accused were arrested in Delhi on August 2 and brought to city on a transit remand on Friday.

The arrested were identified as Nasoki Amos Williams, Ibrahim lduh, both Nigerian nationals and Paras Grovar and Karan Kumar, residents of Delhi. According to police, the offenders Williams and Ibrahim, were residing in the same apartment in New Delhi. They came with fictitious company ‘JB Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals private limited’ and registered on indiamart.com website.

The complainant visited indiamart.com and found the contact number of JB Chemicals Pvt Ltd (Mumbai) which claimed to supply the medicine Opdivo. The victim contacted its representative named Marcus Garret who promised to send the medicine on an advance payment of 30 per cent of its price.

The complainant ordered 20 bottles. Marcus quoted the price of each bottle as Rs67,264. Marcus promised the complainant that once he receives the payment, he would despatch the medicine through his agent Rahul Kumar by flight from Mumbai to Delhi.

Believing the words of Marcus, the victim deposited the total amount of Rs, 3,99,000 to the account numbers given by Marcus. Later he proceeded to Delhi to receive the medicine but in vain. Though he was in Delhi airport for five hours, there was no response from Marcus.

The complainant then realised that he was cheated by a group of online cheaters and returned to Hyderabad with despair and filed a complaint with the cybercrime Police, Hyderabad. Cybercrime Police began investigation and arrested Karan Kumar Jha in Delhi on August 2.

On the lead given by Karan Kumar the team arrested another accused Paras Grover from whom the debit card linked to the crime was recovered. Basing on the confession made by Paras Grover, the two Nigerian nationals were arrested in Delhi.

Recently the cybercrime police station cracked another case on July 29, wherethe Marketing Intelligence Team of cybercrimes police station arrested two more Nigerians accused of defrauding a complainant to the tune of Rs 9.3 lakh. They trapped the victim through Facebook chat and lured to give gift from London. They sought money from her to clear the formalities of Customs, Foreign Exchange, RBI etc.
