As the scorching month of summer – May has come to an end, Hyderabad witnessed one of the hottest day of the season in nearly five decades with 44.3ºC on May 22.


On Sunday too, the heat wave conditions continued to prevail in AP and Telangana with the mercury reading witnessing 42.5ºC making it scorcher. During the past few years, the temperatures recorded on May 31 showed that there has been an increase from 37.8ºC in 2011 to 41.6ºC in 2014.


The Center for Science and Environment, New Delhi stated that following the ongoing heat wave across the country, climate change was a possible cause. The death toll due to the heat wave reached to 1,677 with 40 more lives lost in AP on Sunday. The Met department issued a warning that the heat wave will continue on Monday too in Telangana particularly in Adilabad, Warangal, Ranga Reddy, Khammam, Medak, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Karimnagar and Nizamabad.


The maximum temperatures recorded was 47ºC on Sunday at Hamankonda in Telangana and Jangamaheshwarapuram in AP while minimum temperatures have been above normal by 2°C to 4°C in TS. Nevertheless, isolated rainfall occurred in both AP and Telangana states on Sunday.
