Srisailam: The Srisailam Assembly constituency is expected to witness a keen tussle between the YSRC and TD nominees Budda Rajasekhar Reddy and Silpa Chakrapani Reddy respectively.

With former Minister Erasu Pratap Reddy leaving the Congress along with other leaders, the ruling party had difficulty in identifying a candidate for the seat. It settled for Momin Shabana, from the Hussain Saheb’s family which ruled the Atmakur panchayat for about 50 years. She lacks experience and may find it difficult to even secure the Muslim votes.

Rajasekhar Reddy is from a family which has won four times in Atmakur prior to the reorganisation of constituencies leading to the formation of Srikakulam constituency. Contesting as TDP nominee, he had lost the last two elections to Pratap Reddy.

A law graduate, Rajasekhar Reddy is always accessible to people. He maintains a close rapport with all sections and organises service activities for those in need. He has strong cadre in Srisailam, Atmakur, Velgode, Bandi Atmakur and Mahanandi mandals.

Chakrapani Reddy, a native of Nandyal, is a real estate businessman.

He comes from an affluent family and is brother of former Nandyal MLA Mohan Reddy.

His voluntary organisation Silpa Seva Samiti, has been conducting service activities. Prior to securing the party ticket, he was the TDP constituency in-charge.
