Fingerprinting is one of the most potent methods and clinching evidence to link the individuals with their fingerprints. In 2013, the Fingerprint Bureau (FPB) detected a total of 457 cases with chance print lifted from the crime scene, said a CID press release. It says that the staff visited 568 crime scenes for lifting and development of chance prints.

There is above 50 per cent increase in the number of cases detected compared to lesser than 300 cases detected in 2012, according to officials.
The bureau works on Fingerprint Analysis in Criminal Tracing System (FACTS) which is an online tracing system connected to all the districts in FP units. The central server is placed at State Fingerprint Bureau under the control of ADG, CID, Hyderabad.
FPB helps the local police in establishing the identity of unknown dead bodies through fingerprints. It also undertakes the work of disputed documents containing the fingerprints concerned in civil, criminal, State and Central government departmental cases and furnishes the necessary expert opinion.
According to officials, FPB receives search slips of arrested persons throughout the State to find out the antecedents of the arrested persons which is also sent to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
