Sankarshan Nitai Prabhu, director, Mayapur ISKCON centre, delivered a discourse on the role of monks in the new age society.

“The society needs all kinds of people like doctors, lawyers, accountants, teachers, business people, soldiers, etc. These people are produced by the education system of the nation. There is an imminent need to bring in a shift in the paradigms of our education system and it is that monks can play a crucial role. All the experts who are products of the modern education system offer solutions to many problems we face in our lives but they proved themselves incapable of solving the real problems that lead us to our unhappiness,” the monk stated. “The missing factor of modern education system is its inability to percolate the real object of love into the minds of youngsters. The modern society is teaching only to take from the world but not give back to it. This tendency has lead to the increase of selfishness in the society,” he added.

A posse of 40 monks was part of the entourage.
