Minister for Health and Medical Education Kamineni Srinivas on Wednesday warned that stern action would be taken against private medical colleges if they failed to follow the prescribed guidelines in filling B category seats.

Speaking to newsmen at NTR University of Health Sciences here, the Minister said the allegation that some private medical colleges were collecting more than the prescribed fee for B category seats came to his notice.

An inquiry would be conducted into the allegation. A penalty of Rs 10 lakh would be imposed on the private colleges if they were found guilty. A meeting of the private medical colleges will be held at the University of Health Sciences on August 8 to discuss steps to be taken to ensure transparency in filling B category seats.

MBBS and BDS seats would be filled strictly based on the merit in EAMCET without giving scope for any irregularities during counselling, he said. NTR University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor T Ravi Raju and Registrar S Babulal were also present.
