Hyderabad: Inarguably one the country’s brightest new badminton hopes and Hyderabad’s very own 15-year-old, Vaishnavi Reddy Jakka, is not just going places but seems to have insured for herself a more secure career. Thursday saw her achieve something away from the courts that even her predecessors have not been able to.

She has been roped in as a brand ambassador by Life Insurance major, PNB MetLife India, for the hugely popular ‘PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship’.

This will be in addition to her being the face of all its badminton initiatives and child propositions. Consequently, Vaishnavi becomes the first Indian junior to be so recognised at the national level.

In addition to making it big in the higher age-group singles outings, the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy trainee has been a revelation in the doubles in the company of Pullela Gayatri.

If then 13-year-old Vaishnavi and 11-year-old Gayatri created history of sorts when they won the Under-17 girls doubles title at Kakinada in November 2014, the talented duo scored an encore while winning the Under-17 title in the coveted ONGC Sidcul All India Junior ranking tournament at Dehradun, in the middle of last year.

According to the rankings released by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) on Wednesday, Vaishnavi Reddy is the top tanked U-15 singles and doubles player among girls in the country. Niraj Shah, Director-Marketing, Strategy & Products, PNB MetLife, said, “In Vaishnavi we see another star in-the-making.”
