The 24 cases registered this year shows this fact that district has become a perfect incubator for adulterated chilli powder and a hub for spurious seeds trade.

Barring the high incidence of kidnapping cases, crime against women registered a downward trend in the district.

There were four dowry deaths this year compared to last year’s 10, besides a lone incident of dowry murder against four occurred in 2015.

The district which witnessed 30 (women) murders last year, has recorded 11 this year. On the other hand, abetment of suicide, harassment and eve teasing cases were also on downward trend.

However, road accidents have gone up this year in the district, apparently owing to poor quality of roads, increase in vehicular population and reckless driving.

According to the crime records bureau, a total of 508 persons were killed in 454 fatal accident cases reported in 2016, while the number of deaths was 475 were killed in 425 fatal cases registered in 2015.

This apart, the district had registered 1,061 non fatal accident cases this year against last year’s 1,031.
In property-related offences, the percentage of recovery rate slightly went up compared to last year.

Seventy per cent of the total property lost was recovered that worth around Rs 1.72 crore. Robberies, chain snatchings and other thefts have come down significantly.

There is also a decrease in the number of rape cases. Crime records say that there were 58 rape cases registered this year against 65 in 2015.

Meanwhile, there was a steep rise in kidnapping cases in the district. Kidnapping cases were up by 74 per cent. The number of offences recorded was 92 against last year’s 53.

The decrease in number of excise cases indicates that the authorities had sway over the bootleggers. Just 19 cases related to illicitly distilled (ID) liquor were booked this year as against 218 cases last year.

The crime records say that there was no incident of killing by Maoists. Seven Maoists surrendered this year and the police arrested 33.
