Adilabad: The locals of Adilabad urged the government to initiate the construction works of airport in the district.
Adilabad is one of the most backward districts of Telangana. Though it is geographically located at the center of the country, it is connected to other areas only through roadways.
The Air Force authorities had chosen this area as center for aviation. In this context, 1,592 acres of land near the town was allotted for the Air Force authority and construction of an airport.
“If any excess land is needed for the purpose, the villagers of Kanchikanti are ready to give their lands for the construction of the airport, but the government is not making any further move” lamented the villagers.
“The government is allocating funds for the construction of airports in the backward districts. However, no funds were allocated for the construction of airport in Adilabad. People have expressed their doubt over the construction,” said Rajender, one of the locals.
“The airport, if constructed, would serve as a bridge between North India and South India. There is no other transport facility than roadways till 200 kilometers to connect to other parts of the country.
One has to reach Nagpur to get connected to other regions of the country. The airport if constructed will enhance the employment opportunities” opined Ramulu.
“There is so much mineral wealth in various villages of the district. There are chances of investors to invest in the district if there are better transportation facilities.
The better transportation facilities may result in creation of many companies and thereby employment opportunities.
The villagers said that cotton was widely grown in the district. Usually, the cotton cultivated here is exported to China, Bangladesh and other Asian countries.
The textile industries of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat also use cotton from the district. “There are chances for the textile mills to be opened in the district if there better transportation facilities to the district” the villagers expressed their views.
The State government should also give importance to backward districts like Adilabad while developing Warangal, Kothagudem and Nizamabad.
The villagers said that that the Union Minister, Hansraj Gangaram stated that they would construct the airport in Adilabad if the state government cooperate in matters of infrastructure.
The state government should provide infrastructure and cooperate with the central government for the construction of airport in Adilabad.
The emergence of airport in Adilabad in the district may not only stimulate the better transportation facilities but also better employment opportunities.
The locals are urging the State and Central governments to trigger the move for the construction of the airport.
