Luxettipet: Butchers selling goat and sheep mutton are making huge profits while the people are falling ill after eating the same mutton. This is apparent from the muttons shops at Karimnagar X roads and old bus shelter here. The vendors are selling mutton that was exposed to flies, dust and which is rotten. People, who buy meat from here, are being prone to diseases such as malaria and typhoid.

There is a goat market near Karimnagar cross roads, which reportedly imports unhealthy goats from Maharashtra. These goats and sheep were cut into pieces and preserved in plastic covers in the market. The meat is exposed to pollution emitted by vehicles going on the nearby highway. Even pigs and dogs frequent the area.

The officials, who are supposed to create awareness about cleanliness and hygiene among the people, haven’t inspected these places even once. There are allegations that the food control officials are hand in glove with the meat vendors.

It is learnt that the officials concerned are accustomed to taking bribes and are looking the other way. Pedestrians and travellers face difficulty at these places due to pungent smell emitted from the waste of the meat that was thrown away.

It is also learnt that the owners of four dhabas and nine hotels are purchasing meat from this market as it is profitable for them as they get it for much cheaper price.

According to Animal Husbandry Assistant Director Maszid, the animals should be tested by officials of animal husbandry before being cut. The meat of healthy animals only shouldbe sold in the markets, he added. People appeal to the officials concerned to conduct frequent inspections on mutton shops and hotels.
