Charminar: Colonies adjacent to the river bank of Musi are experiencing horrible experience as the garbage had piled up in the Musi river. The residents have been facing several difficulties due to the foul smell and garbage menace. Besides emanating foul smell, the river has become breeding ground for mosquitoes thus, posing major threat to the health of the residents living in the neighbourhood of the river Musi.
Despite giving complaints to the authorities regarding the increasing danger of the Musi river in the catchment area colonies, no action has been taken yet. The affected areas include Puranapul, Seetlamata slum, Chandrakiran Basti, Sainagar, Chudibazar Basti, Muslim Jangpul, Santoshi Mata, Petlaburj, Police Training Centre, Moti Darwaza and others.
Unfortunately, poor civic facilities in these colonies are leading to pollution of Musi River which is in turn harming the cleanliness and hygiene of the catchment area.
Further, a canal was dug inside the river adjacent to these colonies in order to harbour and take the drain released from catchment area. This canal is also polluted now since other domestic waste is also dumped in it. On the other hand, the State government’s plan to beautify the Musi river could not take off even after six months of fund allocation.
Recently, the government has released some fund for the Musi River beautification but most of the issues related to Musi could not be resurrected so far. Stagnation of murky water and domestic waste is resulting in spread of mosquitoes in the adjacent colonies.
