Ghanapur (Toopran): Vexed by the day and night plying of gravel-laden heavy trucks through the interior roads of their village making them impossible to walk along, the Ghanapur villagers of Toopran mandal protested by planting paddy seedlings on the mud filled roads with potholes for immediate repair. The villagers, who had been unable to walk on the streets as they were destroyed by the plying of heavy trucks passing through the village day and night, said as many as 100 vehicles belong to gravel mills run through the village interior roads with gravel loads.

“The blastings by the mills at the stone crushing sites have been causing injuries to the villagers, and damage to the houses, borewells and fields in the village. We have urged the officials several times to stop the blastings and divert the trucks from passing through the village. By the heavy trucks plying day and night, all the roads in the village have been damaged and are now with huge potholes filled with deep mud by the recent rains.

School going kids, senior citizens and differently-abled persons are unable to walk along the roads in the village. There has been no improvement even our village youth are conducting Swachh Bharat programmes every week in the village. The officials are not paying any attention to our repeated appeals. That is why, vexed by this poor condition, we including women and youth decided to protest planting paddy on the damaged muddy road to bring the issue to the notice of the officials strongly”, said one of the villagers.
