6 students, 4 journos hurt at Nizam College

Hyderabad: Six students were seriously injured and hospitalised as police personnel engaged in a pitched battle with more than 200 youths in the hostel attached to Nizam College on Saturday morning. In the commotion, a degree final year student, Sekhar, accidentally fell to the ground from the hostel building and suffered serious injuries. He was rushed to a hospital where it was found that his waist bone was fractured.
The police and students clashed when the protagonists of Samiakyandhra walked towards LB Stadium to participate in APNGOs ‘Save AP’ meet raising united AP slogans. This was countered by the Nizam College students who raised pro-Telangana slogans. The security personnel __ CISF and First Battalion of AP Special Force__ locked the main gate and cordoned the Nizam College area. Irked by this, students raised slogans against DGP and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and pelted stones on the police. Police entered the college premises and resorted to lathi-charge and fired tear gas shells on the students. The police arrested many students and in the melee six students were seriously injured.
Journalists, who reached the hostel to cover the news, also had to face the wrath of police. The journalists were not even allowed to talk to the students who were locked inside the hostel gate. The journalists staged a peaceful protest in front of the hostel gate and demanded that action be taken against police high handedness in which four journalists were injured. Students leaders lodged a complaint with City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma who responded saying that he will look into the
matter.
