Kothagudem: “Never in my life, I received input subsidy from the government for agriculture. This is the first time I got the cheque,” said a happy 90-year-old woman farmer Kunarapu Narsamma. She has 73 cents in agency area of Kurnapally under Charla mandal and received a cheque for Rs 3,120 under Rythu Bandhu Scheme (RBS).

Not only Narsamma, but all the farmers of the district were praising the government and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for coming forward to help them financially for cultivation.

Rs 125 crores were allotted to Kothagudem district under RBS for distribution to 1,09,604 farmers. The scheme was commenced from May 10 across the State and will continue till May 17. After six days, Rs 43.85 crores were distributed through cheques to 40,000 farmers. The district administration had prepared 1,07,526 cheques for distribution. The remaining cheques will be distributed to the farmers during the last two days.

Assistant Director of Agriculture Department Abhimanyudu said that cash was deposited in the bank and cheques worth Rs 45 crores were prepared for distribution to farmers on Tuesday. As per the government schedule, the remaining cheques and pattadar passbooks will be distributed to the farmers within the two days, he added.

As many as 69 staff from agriculture, revenue departments and IKP were formed into teams to help the farmers during the cheque distribution, Abhimanyudu said. The government has opened a website to provide information to the farmers regarding the scheme.

The Assistant Director said that after May 18, the government will conduct a survey in all villages to know the opinions of the farmers about Rythu Bandhu Scheme. The members of the survey team will visit every village in the district for about one month and gather farmers’ opinions. The report will be submitted to the government.
