Kurnool: About 1200 idols of Ganesh would be immersed in the KC Canal on Tuesday amidst tight police security.
The cranes have been arranged at four places on the two sides of the canal, according to the central committee of Ganesh Festival. The electricity department has arranged special lighting to facilitate immersion late in the night.
Several cultural programmes were organised by the students various schools at the place of immersion. The police had arranged tight security along with way to the immersion site with two additional SPs, Nine DSPs, 37 CIs, 105 SIs and ASIs, 250 head constables, 800 constables and 30 women police personnel, 450 home guards and 120 Armed Reserve constables, 100 special party personnel, and 80 CRPF staff, according to the district superintendent of police, Dr K Raghuram Reddy. He said that stern action would be taken if anybody tried to break the peace. All wine shops would be closed. The SP said that no vehicle would be allowed on the route without permission from the police. Traffic has been diverted to maintain free flow. The SP appealed to people to cooperate with the police to conduct the immersion programme peacefully.
