In the wake of 120 dengue cases being reported in the past 20 days, the Telangana Health Department officials are on alert and setting up measures taken to control vector-borne diseases.

During the first half of the year, 26, 389 cases of dengue were reported and the number of cases has increased to 509 till Monday.

541 cases of malaria have been reported so far this year. The officials believe that the numbers are on the rise during monsoons as mosquitoes breed more with abundant availability of stagnant water but they are are ensuring to avoid an epidemic.

Heads of Health department held of review meeting with Health minister Dr C Laxma Reddy on Monday where he instructed them to put the focus on agency areas where a high number of cases are usually detected.
The officials were also directed to take initiatives to prevent the spread of seasonal diseases including dengue, malaria, chikungunya and other vector-borne diseases.
