Mumbai: Heeding the call of Maharashtra Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Vinod Tawde to inculcate yoga in daily routine and to promote its practice among the student and teacher fraternity, Vivekanand Education Society (VES), Chembur observed International Yoga Day on June 21. Students from the pre-primary classes to students studying in post-graduation courses at the institute participated whole-heartedly in the event. VES has overall 26 Institutions teaching courses in the streams of Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Engineering, Pharmacy, Polytechnic, Leadership Academy and Law.

“It has been acknowledged globally that yoga is a holistic health and spiritual discipline which helps in achieving complete mental and physical well-being. The contribution of yoga to mankind is as old as the origin of human civilization itself. With the UN recognizing June 21 as International Yoga Day, Yoga has established its firm footprint as a recognized global health discipline. As an institution committed to promoting and endorsing yoga and recognizing its benefits in optimizing academic performance and overall personality development, VES has always encouraged its widespread practice and will continue to do so,” said Mr. Mahesh Tejwani, President, VES.

Several yoga sessions were organized in the VES campus to mark the event. The sessions received an enthusiastic response from the students and teachers. Apart from observing International Yoga Day, VES has also been encouraging the enhanced practice of yoga through organizing weekly yoga sessions on a particular day of the week.

Through its various educational institutes over the last 54 years, VES has helped nurture an intellectual endeavor that focuses on critical and creative thinking, with the aim of social transformation, inculcating both human and spiritual values in students. Competence, compassion and commitment are the hallmarks of an individual we seek to encourage.
