Baramulla: The Indian Army held free coaching classes for students in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla District.

The month-long tuition classes were followed by a felicitation ceremony on Thursday where the students were given free study material and stationary.

"The basic aim of this event was to let the students and their parents know that army wants empowerment of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. And the best way for empowerment is education," said Major General Jai Singh Nain, GOC 28 Division, Baramulla.

The initiative was an attempt to reach out to the young minds of the valley where militancy remained an all-time threat.

The classes were a hit among students who cannot afford private tuitions.

"We got lots of benefits from these classes as there were many poor students who couldn't afford private education. So I would like to thank Indian army that they provided us free stationary along with free tuitions." said a student.

Army regularly makes attempts to connect with the locals in Kashmir. In the past, blood banks have been organised by the army personnel in militancy-hit areas.
