In a heartwarming incident that took place on August 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up a couple in Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh and named their baby Daughter Vaibhavi, in response to a letter that the couple wrote.

The parents -- Bharat Singh and Vibha -- are now a celebrity couple in Nayapura Hansipur village in Mirzapur. Bharat is the son of a farmer and his wife, Vibha, had written a letter to the Prime Minister on August 13, the day their daughter was born, requesting him to christen her daughter. “We had always wanted a daughter.
I don’t have a sister and girls care more about their parents than boys. After our daughter’s birth, my wife wrote to the PM asking him to name our daughter. She also mentioned that his campaign for the girl child has been an inspiration and that two Indian girls had won medals in the Olympics, which is a moment of joy for the country,” said Bharat.
He added that he sent the letter by speed post to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on August 13 itself. “On August 20, I received a call around 10 pm. The person on the phone said the Prime Minister wanted to talk to me. Then the PM came on the line and spoke to me for about two-and-a-half minutes.
He congratulated me and said I should name the girl Vaibhavi because it will include letters of both me and my wife’s names,” said Bharat. The next day, an elated Bharat told villagers about the call from the PM. But not many believed his story, he said.
On August 22, he called the number from which he had received the call from the PMO. He requested the official on the phone to send him a letter containing the PM’s response.
Bharat received a brief letter from the PMO through speed post on August 30. The letter, dated August 24, was addressed to Bharat and Vibha and signed by the PM. In the letter, the PM congratulated the couple for “the arrival of a daughter in your home”. “You will fulfil Vaibhavi’s dreams and Vaibhavi will become your power, my good wishes…” he added.
