Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that 'Rally for Rivers' is not a mere slogan, but a movement which is the need of the hour and added that before the Ardh Kumbh, his government will make every effort to cleanse the rivers.

"This movement to save rivers is not a mere slogan, but it is a need of the hour. In 2020, we will organize Kumbh in Prayagraj. Along with Ganga and Yamuna, there is also a confluence of the Saraswati River. Ganga is the most polluted in Jajmau, therefore, we will take care of it before the Ardh Kumbh Mela," the Chief Minister said while addressing a 'Rally for Rivers' programme in Ram Manohar Lohia Law University here.

He asserted that Prayagraj is important in Uttar Pradesh due to the Sangam River, but the Saraswati River is not in that form, adding the need for drinking water in Lucknow is fulfilled by the Gomti River, but 26 drains have made Gomti impure.

"Ganga River has been much polluted in Kanpur. Uttar Pradesh Government is already doing a program for 'Rally for Rivers' and Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) are being set up for this," Chief Minister Adityanath added.

A program was organized to save the rivers today in Ram Manohar Lohia Law University of Lucknow.

This program called 'Rally for Rivers', along with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh and many others.
