The Board of Control for Cricket in India has suspended Rajasthan Royals spinner Harmeet Singh, pending an inquiry into his role in the Indian Premier League spot-fixing scandal. Harmeet was questioned by Ravi Sawani, head of BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit, at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Saturday. The left-arm spinner was questioned by Sawani for about an hour regarding his meetings with bookies during the sixth season of the Twenty20 league. Harmeet had reportedly told the Delhi police in a statement on Thursday that Ajit Chandila and a bookie had planned to approach teammate Shane Watson. The statement was recorded before a magistrate under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code on Wednesday, revealed a Delhi Police officer. After the interrogation by Delhi Police, the BCCI sent Harmeet a show cause notice for not informing them about approaches made by bookies prior to the start of IPL 6. The 20-year-old was approached by his Rajasthan Royals teammate Ajit Chandila, who fixed a meeting at a hotel located at Mumbai's Bandra area, where bookies urged Harmeet to indulge in spot-fixing. The youngster reportedly turned down the offer. Harmeet was part of India's victorious under-19 World Cup squad in Australia in 2012 and was signed by the Rajasthan Royals franchise prior to IPL 6. The Delhi Police unearthed the Indian Premier League spot-fixing scandal with the arrest of three Royals players - S. Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan and Chandila - in May. Sreesanth and Chavan have since been granted bail.
