‘Sui Dhaga – Made in India’, a film by Sharat Katariya is firing the imagination of the film goers, and the lead actors Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan – Mamta and Mauji – the homegrown entrepreneurs are already reaching out to millions with their spirit of entrepreneurship, struggle and triumph, and their celebration of love. Mamta, especially has become everyone’s favourite and several memes on her have surfaced overnight.

Amidst her busy promotion tour, Anushka grabs a few minutes to share why she loves her character so much. “One should not judge or have pre-conceived notion on rural women and think that they always stand behind the man and are hardly empowered. If you see the trailer Mamta is strong, she advices her husband on what to do, she questions him, encourages him and tells him from right and wrong. She is the driving force behind their enterprise. Together she dreams of their own enterprise.”

A character in contrast with all her other roles, of a simple married woman, who always covers her head with pallu, supports her husband, does embroidery. It looks like Anushka became quite at ease with the role of Mamta. “It took some practice. I had to learn the mannerisms, observe how the women wear the pallu, laugh, we had workshops – we worked till we perfected the look,” she shares.

“Mamta is very different from the person I am, and it took some effort to play this soft speaking demure character,” she adds. The effort showed some good results as one sees in the trailer where Anushka handles the saree with a pallu over her head with ease. When she works, walks, laughs, does embroidery, you see Mauji’s wife Mamtha.

On choosing the film she relates, “It is not about what genre of films are trending. I choose a film if it has a good script and has a good team backing it. When you make a film, its important more people watch it and it becomes commercially viable too. I know that ‘Sui Dhaga’ is a film that will touch every viewer. I also liked what director Sharat Katariya has done for the film ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’. It was also a great experience working with Varun Dhawan. We enjoyed the entire process of making the film.” ‘Sui Dhaga’ releases on September 28.
