Civic body to focus on dilapidated structures.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) decided to focus on dilapidated structures in the city. GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy on Wednesday held a review meeting with engineering and town planning wing officials and instructed officials to identify the dilapidated structures and demolish or rectify them.

The Commissioner visited Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills areas on Wednesday and inspected the structural stability of retaining walls and huge buildings. He instructed town planning officials to issue notices to property owners concerned seeking stability certificate to initiate further necessary action.
The Commissioner said that the corporation so far identified as many as 1,819 dilapidated structures in the city, out of which 1,248 buildings were demolished/ rectified/ re-developed. Total 176 buildings are under court cases (which are mostly a dispute between an owner and a tenant).
During the current year, 152 buildings were referred to engineering department to seek structural stability and 32 buildings were demolished so far.
He instructed GHMC officials to have special focus on dilapidated and unsafe buildings and take special drive for demolition of unsafe structures in this monsoon season in order to safeguard the lives of public. He also cautioned citizens to vacate the dilapidated structures, which were posing dangers and said to co-operate with corporation for demolition of the same to safeguard lives.
