Chinese Consumers Top Online Shoppers

Washington: Chinese consumers are reportedly tech-savvy shoppers and making purchases via their mobile devices, a new survey has revealed.
More than half of them, amounting to 59.4 percent shop online through their smartphones, the highest in Asia-Pacific region, according to MasterCard Online Shopping Survey.

According to the survey, other top mobile shopping markets include Thailand at 51.2 percent, Korea at 47.6 percent, India at 47.1 percent and Indonesia at 46.7 percent.
The survey, conducted across 25 markets between November and December 2013, found that consumers from New Zealand, Japan and Australia show the lowest intent to purchase using their smartphones.
Across the 14 Asia-Pacific markets, convenience, the ability to shop on the go and the growing availability of apps that make it easier to shop emerged as the most compelling reasons for driving smartphone shopping.
Most mobile-shopped items were clothing and fashion accessories, followed by apps and music.
Region Head, Asia-Pacific, MasterCard Advisors, Pierre Burret said that for the first time, clothingand fashion accessories have overtaken apps to become the top category of items purchased viasmartphones.
It was also noted that the number of Indian respondents who use the Internet for shopping from 53.1 percent in 2012 went up by 80 percent in 2013.
