Hyderabad: Another controversy seems to be brewing between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments. While Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao convened a meeting of his party MPs on Sunday and told them that they should oppose the circular sent by union home secretary Anil Goswami seeking the opinion of the government on constituting a common police board which aims at giving absolute powers to the Governor with regard to police administration, Naidu dashed off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to see that the Governor gets full powers as per the AP State Reorganisation Act-2014 so that the property and liberty of the Seemandhra people living in Hyderabad could be protected.

In his letter Naidu said that as per the Act, the Governor was responsible for maintaining law and order in the state capital as long as it continues to be the common capital for both the states. Under section (8- A) in the Act, the Governor has been given special powers to protect people from Seemandhra who are settled in Hyderabad. The Governor has every authority to appoint the city Police Commissioner and DCPs and ACPs of the police zone in the city. If necessary he can even have a police force which was a mix of officers from both states.

Opposing this move, TRS leader K Keshav Rao said that the TRS party and the government felt that any such move would amount to encroaching upon the rights and privileges of the Telangana State by the Centre.
