T-TDP Leaders Meets Governor on Farmers\' Issues. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Friday accused the state government of doing precious little to address the problems of farmers in Telangana and sought the Governor\'s intervention in the issue.

Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Friday accused the state government of doing precious little to address the problems of farmers in Telangana and sought the Governor's intervention in the issue.

"This government is not bothered about farmers' suicides. They have not bothered to find out the welfare of any such family," Telangana TDP president L Ramana told reporters after a delegation of party leaders met Governor ESL Narasimhan here.

Senior TDP MLA E Dayakar Rao alleged that crop loss has happened because of government's negligence and demanded a compensation of Rs 30,000 per acre for crop loss.

"Government is responsible for farmers' suicides. Each family should be given an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh. Farmers are not getting remunerative price though they are doing farming with great difficulty.

"Cotton (price) has fallen. CCI says that government is not cooperating with us. Thats why we have requested that Governor intervene and see that a quintal is purchased at Rs 5,000 through CCI," Rao said.

BJP MP and the party's national vice president Bandaru Dattatreya has accused Telangana government of being "short- sighted and unprepared" which led to water and power shortage due to which several farmers have committed suicide in the newly formed state.

"In the new state of Telangana, so far about 250 farmers committed suicide due to water and power shortage. Nobody expected this from the new state of Telangana. This situation arose only due to the short sightedness and unpreparedness of the Telangana government," Dattatreya said here two days ago.
