Hyderabad: In a meticulous operation, a Maoist couple, along with three others, was arrested on Monday in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and the police forces in four south Indian States staked claims for the major catch, in a ‘joint action’. It is known to the people that only AP police or (Telangana police?) are capable of zeroing in on and presuming that an ordinary looking person with his wife and friends, sipping tea in a bakery could be a perilous militant and arrest him in an operation that lasted only for a few minutes.
Well, the news of the arrests of Roopesh, a Maoist leader from Kerala, his comrade-wife Shina and three others made headlines in print, electronic and cyber media, but The Hans India spoke to a girl, Ami, daughter of the arrested Maoist couple. “It’s not right to apprehend people who do good to the society. I strongly protest the arrest of Roopesh and Shina, my parents. The society needs people like Roopesh and Shina. It is unfair to confine them.
I will go ahead with legal procedures to see that they are freed,” she said. “I’m proud of being the daughter of them. Roopesh has decided to fight for the downtrodden, though the so-called civilized society loves to believe that there is no ‘poor and exploited’ in Kerala, a highly literate State in the country. I’ll try to meet both my parents personally with the help of advocates,” Ami said.
Ami is living with her aunt Savera and grandmother Nabeesa in their house at Valappattu in Trissur in Kerala. “I was afraid that they (the police) would kill my father and mother in an encounter. But it didn’t happen. Thanks to the help of some human right activists, I’m sure my parents will come out of legal hassles very soon,” Ami said. “My parents stood for the exploited,” Ami cut short this correspondent was a tad interrogative. Roopesh is wanted in at least 20 cases in Kerala, and his wife Shina was a clerk in a court, before taking to the Maoist ideology.
