Mahabubnagar: Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States ESL Narasimhan said that there was no bigger donation than Kanyadaan, means parents handing over their daughter to a groom at the time of her marriage. Participating as the guest at the mass marriages programme, organised by local TRS MLA M Janardhan Reddy’s Charitable Trust, here on Friday, he blessed newly-married couples a happy and prosperous life.


The Governor also handed over cheques worth Rs 51,000 to each couple under the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme and advised them to work hard. As many as 102 pairs, belonging to the Dalit and Backward Classes, married at 11 am on Friday, the muhurtam was fixed by the veda pandits of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).

The Governor said the new couples should not depend too much on the government and everyone should try to contribute his/her mite to the development of the society. He lauded Janardhan Reddy and his trust for conducting such a noble event.


In his address, State Finance Minister Eatala Rajender said the poor were facing severe financial problems in conducting marriages for their daughters and keeping this in view, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao launched the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme. This scheme would reduce the financial burden on the poor, he added.


The parents of the brides said they were extremely happy that their children got married under the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme and also thanked the MJR Charitable Trust for conducting marriages in a grand manner. The newly-weds also expressed their happiness on the occasion in the presence of thousands of people. The event was presided over by Marri Janardhan Reddy, chairman of the MJR Trust and his wife. The marriage venue resembled a filmi set with lavishly decorated function hall.
