Hyderabad: With the Hyderabad High Court pulling up the Telangana government over lack of required number of teachers in the government schools, the government has decided to appoint academic instructors.

Speaking to newspersons at the State Secretariat here on Monday, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari said after rationalisation, transfer of teachers and promotions process, the department had gathered the resultant vacancies of secondary grade teachers, school assistants from all districts.

“Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has given a nod to fill the vacancies with the academic instructors.” However, he refused to divulge the number of vacancies. For the recruitment the government would constitute district-wise committees and district collectors would be given responsibility.

“We have decided to complete the process by the end of September and in this regard guidelines are also prepared.” According to the rough estimates of Directorate of School Education, over 4,000 secondary grade teachers and more than 3,000 school assistants are required to fill in the vacancies.

On DSE, the Minister said even if the teacher recruitment starts now, it would take five to six months to conclude and keeping in the large interest of the students the government would appoint academic instructors. “A decision on the DSE will be taken and by next academic the process will be completed,” he added. On Right to Education Act implementation, the Minister said the government needs to think on it.

He further said the Act which has advantages and disadvantages was not being implemented in several states, “As far Telangana government is concerned, whatever that is being spent on the RTE can be spent to strengthen government schools and teachers. However, the government is yet to take a final decision in this regard.”
