ALAIR ENCOUNTER

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has rejected the demand by MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi for a judicial probe into the killing of five Muslim under-trials at Alair of Nalgonda district on April 7 this year.

Replying to a debate in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said the State government had already constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the encounter. He said further action would be taken on receipt of SIT report.

However, he assured the MIM floor leaders that if any injustice was meted out to undertrial prisoners, then the guilty would be punished. Earlier, Akbaruddin Owaisi said the Assembly did not discuss Alair encounter during the monsoon session. He said all five Muslims, who were killed in the alleged encounter, were only undertrials and were not pronounced guilty by a court of law.

He said only courts were empowered to award punishment and not the police officials. He demanded probe into the encounter by a sitting or retired judge. He expressed the feared that the SIT, which comprised policemen, may not give a report against their colleagues.
