Hyderabad: Continuing tirade against the Telangana government on the supply of substandard super fine rice to social welfare hostels, Telangana TDP working president A Revanth Reddy on Monday claimed that he got ample evidences to prove that inferior quality rice was being supplied to the hostels.
Displaying rice samples collected from the hostels in his Kodangal Assembly constituency at a press conference here, he said the rice supplied for mid-day meal scheme in the government schools and the hostels was not nutritious. Rice provided to these schools was polished rice and not fine rice as claimed by the government, he said.
The TDP leader dared Civil Supplies Minister E Rajendar to visit his constituency and conduct a survey on the supply of rice to the hostels. Revanth also demanded that the Minister order vigilance inquiry into the supply of poor quality rice. He alleged that the rice mafia, with the support of some government officials and influential persons in the government, misused the scheme.
“The Minister is performing his duties at the behest of his master (Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao) neglecting the plight of poor students studying in welfare hostels,” he charged. The TDP leader sought to know whether the government had collected rice samples from every hostel and conducted laboratory test on the quality mandated by the Central government. He said not a single sample was collected from any hostel by the authorities since the launch of the scheme in December last year.
