Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Sunday approved the long-pending Janakha–Korata project across Penganga river. Clearing the file, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao gave Rs 368 crore administrative sanction for the construction of the project to bring 50,000 acres of land under irrigation in Adilabad district.

The construction of the project will be taken up in January and will be completed in two years, Forest, Science and Technology Minister J Ramanna said, adding that all the barren lands would turn fertile in Bodh once the project is completed.

Stating that the Penganga project has been taken up jointly by the Telangana and Maharashtra governments, he said water flow to the new barrage will also help address the drinking water problem in the backward district. The minister thanked the Chief Minister and Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao for giving the nod for the much-delayed project.
