Hyderabad: Justice C V Nagarjuna Reddy of the High Court at Hyderabad on Friday took on file the statement of the Election Commission on the question of deletion of names from the electoral roles.

The Commission informed the court that there were no en masse deletion of voters by the EC after October 2015 and till the GHMC polls are over there would not be any such deletions except on individual applications.

The judge dismissed the two petitions filed by Feroze Khan of TDP and Nagesh Mudiraj of the Congress party.

The petitioners complained that the process of reservation for the Backward Classes category was carried out without finalising the issue of deletion of 6.3 lakh voters.

The judge then directed the Election Commission to give its final decision. The petitioners then complained that the GHMC had prepared list of 7.9 lakh voters to be deleted in the name of double entries and they were being clandestinely removed and hence composition of voters would change.

The judge directed the Commission to explain this as well. Counsel appearing for the Election Commission informed the court that the GHMC had in fact identified 7.9 lakh voters to be deleted from the list on the grounds of duplication and this process would be carried out after the completion of the GHMC elections.
