Mahbubnagar: Mahbubnagar district, which is synonymous with migration and backwardness, is ironically sitting on abundant mineral resources. According to sources from Geological Survey of India (GSI), the district has abundant reserves of Kimberlite (an ore of diamonds). This apart, the vast reserves of quartz, granite and other mineral reserves are yet to be explored.
The GSI has sent a team of six scientists to the district for investigation and mapping the entire area regarding various mineral resources available here. They are holding camps in Mahabubnagar, Jadcherla, Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Rajapur, Kalwakurthi, Nagarkurnool, Pangal and Kollapur mandals in the district. “We are carrying out a detailed survey of the entire district.
We are first targeting the potential areas of Narayanpet, Kosgi and Kodangal mandals. As of now, we have found abundant reserves of quartz, granite and limestone in the district. There have also been earlier studies in the district which have indicated the presence of Kimberlitic pipes (diamond) reserves, but detailed studies needs to be done to ascertain the exact location of these reserves,” revealed sources on anonymity.
The team has brought with them imported advanced machinery. “We have all kinds of highly advanced machinery that can detect and gauge the smallest of the small information about the mineral reserves inside the earth’s crust. In fact, we are extensively exploring all the potential areas in the distinct. It may take more than 2-3 months to prepare a detailed report on the mineral mapping,” informed a scientific source.
However, the district, which is having uneven terrain with mountains, plains, rivers and rivulets, is also having varied soils like red, black, sandy, gravel and stony, which all indicates different varieties of minerals resources.
Particularly, the areas that are yet to be explored in the district are Kollapur, Pangal, Gadwal, Narayanpet, Balanagar, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthi, Koilkonda, Devarkadra, Jadcherla, Rajapur etc. All these regions have abundant reserves of silicon, quartz and granite which are used in the manufacturing of glass, informed the sources.
