Gajwel: Thousands of people from various parts of the State came to attend the fourth day of the spectacular Ayutha Maha Chandi Yagam here on Saturday. Long queues of vehicles and frequent traffic jams on roads leading to the farmhouse where the Yagam is taking place were ample evidences for the popularity of the ritual.

Devotees, who started coming to the farmhouse from early in the morning, had to wait for hours together to get a pradakshina around the yagasthali. It was also reported that a few people had fainted while waiting in the queue.

Medical teams on the premises provided first aid and took care of them. Reports of children missing also came from the locality, but the information centre ensured that the parents were united with their children. Kumkumarchana for ladies was cancelled due to the unprecedented rush. Even laddoo prasadam was not distributed.

Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao rose up to the occasion and personally supervised the arrangements. Every now and then he spoke in the mike c, requesting the devotees to keep moving fast so that thousands of devotees waiting outside could quickly get in. He asked the devotees not to open cell phones or take selfies while taking pradakshinas around the yagasthali.

From early in the morning, police constables, sub-inspectors and other officers regulated the queue of devotees and parking of vehicles without even having breakfast or lunch at least until 4 pm. Vedic pundits welcomed the Chief Minister and his wife who reached the yagashala in the morning with panchavadyam and poornakumbham. The Chief Minister, organisers and Ruthwiks wore red robes on the day, as per the tradition.
