Hyderabad: Polling for the Greater Hyderabad Muncipal Corporation (GHMC) would be held on February 2. The Telangana State Election Commission on Friday issued the notification for the polls to the civic body.

As per the schedule announced by Election Commissioner V Nagi Reddy, nominations would be accepted from January 12 and January 17 is the last date for making nominations. The scrutiny of nominations would take place on January 18 and January 21 is the last date for withdrawal.

Polling would be held on February 2 from 7 am to 5 pm. Counting of votes will be taken up on February 5. Repolling, if necessary, would be held on February 4. The model code of conduct for the GHMC polls came into force from Friday.

The first election to Baldia after the formation of the Telangana State will have 50 percent seats reserved for women. Out of 150 seats, 75 will be reserved for women. As many as 7,757 polling booths will be set up and they will be headed by a Presiding Officer and equal number of Assistant POs.

A total of 23, 271 other polling staff will be deputed for the elections. The SEC said that the polling would be held through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). About 12,000 electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used. The SEC also clarified that the contesting candidate cannot spend more than Rs 5 lakh.

In order to control the election expenditure, the SEC has planned to keep eye on all parties and candidates by video-graphing every public meet and procession to be held as part of canvassing. The GHMC will also maintain a shadow register on daily basis and would suspend the candidate’s accounts submitted by submitted by him/her fail to with it.

The contesting candidate can fill nominations online (e-nominations) and should sign it in the presence of the Returning Officer in their respective division.
