Hyderabad: The week-long road safety campaign organised by the Ranga Reddy police concluded on Tuesday, with the police taking out a bike rally in Vikarabad. Transport Minister P Mahendar Reddy, Vikarabad MLA B Sanjeeva Rao and hundreds of people took part in the conclusion ceremony of the seven-day campaign organised by the police to enforce road discipline and to create awareness among the citizens about road safety.

The police organised several awareness programmes at educational institutions, offices and commercial establishments as part of the campaign. Distribution of road safety guides, leaflets and films on road safety were also shown to the public. Commuters were also explained about the methods and necessities of the road safety means.

Painting and drawing competitions, road safety announcements, exhibitions, road rules test, girls’ scooter rally to encourage the use of helmets, debates on road safety, workshops and seminars were organised across the district.

A free medical camp and workshop on safe driving were also held for the drivers. The campaign was conducted to impart awareness on road safety among the public, said Ranga Reddy SP Rema Rajeshwari.

“According to the data, a total of 242 persons died in 415 road accidents in the district in 2015, against 270 deaths in 564 road accidents in 2014. The aim was to educate people about the need of safe road travel by applying simple rules,” the SP said.

The violators of traffic rules were given roses urging them to take a resolution to not violate the rules and the disciplined road users were given chocolates. ‘Good Citizen Selfies’ were taken by the police with the rule abiders.
