Beedi workers held dharna

Balkonda (Nizamabad): The beedi workers held a dharna at the Balkonda mandal headquarters in the district on Friday. They demanded the Union government to desist from introducing a legislation pasting a warning signal on the beedi rolls that smoking beedis causes throat cancer.

Speaking to the media, the district Telangana Progressive Beedi Workers Union president Muthtenna said that the beedi workers were facing lot of hardships without jobs the pasting of such warning picture would badly hit their livelihood.

Such type of pictures would result in the closure of the entire beedi industry in the state, he added. Later, the workers submitted a memorandum to the Tahsildar Pandarinath.
