Hyderabad: The Congress leaders on Tuesday sought the intervention of Governor ESL Narasimhan on major issues engulfing the State. They urged him to order a CBI enquiry into EAMCET – II paper leak, besides dismissing Ministers and higher officials associated with the conduct of the examination.
The leaders also complained to him about government’s use of unnecessary force to stifle the voices of Opposition on the Mallannasagar issue. The delegation led by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy raised several questions with regard to the conduct of EAMCET – II by the State government.
He pointed out that the government had handed over responsibility of organising the entrance test to one private company, which in turn assigned the task of printing two sets of EAMCET-II papers to a single printing press in New Delhi. He wondered how culprits were able to know that this particular printing press was dealing with EAMCET – II papers. “The government is trying to hush-up the matter, rather taking action against the Ministers and the higher officials who were responsible for handling the entrance examination,” he said.
The TPCC chief described the government’s decision to cancel EAMCET-II as irrational, as it was traumatising more than 50,000 students who had already appeared for the examination. He questioned the government’s decision to go for EAMCET – III. “It will be better if the government orders a CBI enquiry as CID investigations may not be fruitful,” he said.
Speaking to media persons outside Raj Bhavan, Uttam Kumar felt that the government was attempting to muzzle the voices of Opposition by using force against farmers agitating for a better compensation to their lands that would be submerged under the Mallannasagar reservoir.
He described the attitude of the government as ‘dictatorial’, when it imposed Section 144 of IPC to restrain villagers and outsiders who wished to console them after they were indiscriminately lathicharged. Citing the case of Alampur MLA S A Sampath Kumar, he felt that the government was resorting to high-handedness even against the public representatives.
“If an MLA could be detained for 24 hours for his attempt to enter a village, what about the common man?” he asked. Former minister V Sunitha Laxma Reddy, who visited Mallannasagar-affected villages, displayed pictures of the victims and lamented that even children and women were not spared during the lathicharge. Gadwal MLA D K Aruna demanded the resignation of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao over his failure to handle these issues.
CLP leader K Jana Reddy, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, former MPs M Anjan Kumar Yadav, Ponnam Prabhakar and others were present.
