Hyderabad: TDP Telangana unit on Monday took out a massive rally protesting against the agreement Telangana government entered into with Maharashtra on construction of irrigation projects on River Godavari. The rally proceeded from TDP head office, NTR Trust Bhavan to Jala Soudha, office of State Irrigation department.

However, party leaders including TDP president L Ramana and working president A Revanth Reddy and others were arrested in Khairatabad. This led to vehicular traffic coming to a grinding halt for more than an hour. Ramana and Revanth alleged that the Telangana government had mortgaged State’s interests by reducing the height of Tummidi Hatti project.

They said this would result in the State losing its rights to utilise assured water. They accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of indulging in corruption by escalating the cost of the project to nearly 83,000 crore from Rs 38,000 crore without preparing DPRs (Detailed Project Report).

Stating that the TDP would expose the TRS government in the ensuing Assembly session which would begin from Tuesday, Revanth said he has necessary evidence with regard to the alleged corruption in the execution of the projects in the name of re-designing by scrapping the Pranahita–Chevella project.
