Hyderabad: Renowned Irrigation expert and Advisor to the Telangana government R Vidyasagar Rao passed away on Saturday while undergoing treatment for metastatic bladder cancer at a corporate hospital in Hyderabad.

Rao was considered an authority on irrigation matters. Rao was admitted to the hospital on April 22 and was being treated by a multidisciplinary team of medical experts.

A hospital bulletin said the malignant cancer progressed to other vital organs and his condition deteriorated. He passed away at 11.23 am on Saturday.

Expressing his deep condolences Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said that he was upset with the sad demise his close associate.

The Chief Minister was in tears when he went to call on the family members of Rao. KCR recalled the services rendered by Rao to TRS party during Telangana movement and also the TS- government.

“The way Rao waged a battle over the cheating and injustice done to the Telangana region in water and in Irrigation was unique and unparalleled, “ KCR said his vast experience in the irrigation field had immensely helped the T State after its formation in re-designing the irrigation projects.

“It is unfortunate that Rao has left us midway when we are realising the dream of giving water to one crore acres in the state. He was not only a good friend but also an elder brother and member of my family,” the CM said.

The Chief Minister instructed Chief Secretary SP Singh to accord state funeral to the departed leader. The last rites would be performed at Amberpet crematorium on Sunday morning.
