Hyderabad: A team of senior officials from the Agriculture Department from Punjab appreciated the way the Telangana government implemented the Farmers Debit Redemption Scheme (FDRS) in a scientific manner.

A team of officials, headed by Punjab’s Additional Principal Secretary D P Reddy, interacted with the State Agriculture Secretary C Partha Sarathi and officials of various banks and Agriculture Department here on Friday to take stock of details on how the State had implemented the FDRS.

Partha Sarathi, explaining the visiting delegation, said that the State had formed a cabinet sub-committee soon after the formation of Telangana State.

The committee had gone into all aspects of the scheme for two months and had come up with the modalities and guidelines for implementing the FDRS, he said.

He said that the State government had waived about Rs 17,000 crore in three years, besides taking steps to ensure that the relief reaches genuine beneficiaries.

Officials from the banks and Agriculture Department had shared their experiences at field level while implementing the scheme.

Expressing appreciation, the Punjab officials said that the interaction had given them confidence that a similar scheme could be implemented to provide relief to the farmers in that State.
