Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy strongly condemned the attack on the car of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Banaskanta region of Gujarat by the BJP activities.

Rahul Gandhi, who was on a day-long visit to the flood-hit regions of Gujarat, was to address a rally in Lal Chowk of Banaskanta on Friday. However, the BJP activists allegedly attacked his car and pelted stones. “Attack on Rahul Gandhi’s car is an act of cowardice and shame,” said Uttam Kumar Reddy in a media statement on Friday.

He said the attack had exposed lawlessness in BJP-ruled Gujarat. Attack on the vice president of a national party in the home State of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a matter of serious concern, he said and added that the attack not only exposed security and intelligence failure, but also the rising inclination of BJP activists towards violence.

“The BJP goons are bringing disrepute to Bapu’s Gujarat which is an icon of peace across the world. The BJP will fail in its attempts to intimidate Rahul Gandhi, the Congress and the people of Gujarat using violent means,” said Uttam Kumar Reddy while adding that the Congress followed the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi of non-violence and peace.

He demanded that the Prime Minister himself apologise to the people of the country for attack on Rahul Gandhi's car in Gujarat.Uttam Kumar Reddy said people of Gujarat would restore ‘Bapu's Gujarat’ which was a symbol of peace and reject ‘Modi's Gujarat’ which signified violence.
