Karimnagar: The government is investing Rs 100 crores for constructing roads and drainages to prevent stagnation of rain water along with all-round development of Karimnagar, informed Finance Minister Eatala Rajender.
The Minister laid foundation stones for various developmental works in Karimnagar along with distributing the Bathukamma sarees under municipal limits here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said rain water would enter the houses and cause untold miseries to the residents whenever there is a heavy rainfall in the city.
Previous governments had not taken any steps to solve this problem. But, the TRS government is investing Rs 100 crores for constructing drainages and roads in such a way so as to prevent rain water stagnation along with taking steps to divert rain water out of the city, he added.
Drainages are constructed by investing Rs 5 crores in 25th division along with CC roads at a cost of Rs 2.5 crores. A sSpring bridge will be constructed with advanced technology on Manair river between Sadashivapalli and Karimnagar at a cost of Rs 170 crores and the construction works of drainages and CC roads in all streets in the city will be completed within six months.
To respect the women in the State, the government is giving Bathukamma sarees as a gift. The government decided to give the sarees on a large scale to honour the women but not to insult them.
Since there was not enough time to manufacture that huge number of sarees in the State, the government has imported some sarees from other States.
Next year all the sarees will be manufactured in Telangana only, Eatala assured.
The Bathukamma sarees given by the government in respect of the women must be received as a gift but not indulge in such activities that may lead to disrespect of Telangana tradition and culture, he advised.
MLC Naradasu Lakshman Rao, MLA Gangula Kamalakar, City Mayor Ravinder Singh, Deputy Mayor Guggilla Ramesh, City Municipal Commissioner Shashank, Rural Development Officer Raja Goud and Library Chairman Anugu Ravinder Reddy were present along with others.
