Warangal: Finally, a giant step towards ‘Made in Telangana’. Barring the twin districts of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy, industrial development in Telangana has always been like chasing a mirage. If people in the region had dearly missed the Azam Jahi Mills that went defunct in early 1990s, the upcoming Kakatiya Mega Textile Park for which Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will set the foundation stone on Sunday is redemption of sorts.

The government assures that the proposed fibre to fabric (end-to-end) facility is much bigger than the Azam Jahi Mills that once provided bread and butter to more than 10,000 people. In a bid to douse the growing demand of reviving the mill, the government came up with the proposal of setting up an Integrated Apparel and Textile Park in 2004.

However, it never got going after the foundation stone ceremony. Incidentally, it was Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, the then Irrigation Minister in Telugu Desam government, who laid the foundation stone.

It may be noted here that textile industry is one among the 14 key sectors identified by the State. With majority of fibre to fabric processing units going to Andhra post bifurcation; it became imminent for the Telangana government to make use of around 60 lakh bales of cotton produced in the State.

Against this backdrop, the TS Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) acquired 1,200 acres spread in Shayampet haweli under Geesukonda mandal in Warangal Rural district besides ready with the Master Plan and Investment Plan for the project, and all important environmental clearance.

“At least a dozen companies including multinationals are ready to invest in the upcoming textile park and the representatives of these firms were also attending the inaugural function on Sunday,” the TSIIC Warangal Zonal Manager Ratan Rathod told The Hans India.

In addition to the 1,200 acres they acquired, the administration is trying to fulfill their target of 2,000 acres for the textile park. According to the MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao, who also holds the portfolio of textiles, the textile park will provide direct and indirect employment to at least 66,000 people, thus bringing back the skilled and unskilled workforce of the region especially those who migrated to Surat, Bhiwandi and other places in pursuit of livelihood.
